Barney Davidson was once the proud owner of a Royal Ascot winner but after a long time in the wilderness he finally saw his colours carried to victory again in a Flat race.

The Carlisle builder’s decision to turn his attentions back to the Flat paid dividends as recent acquisition Eastern Dragon, trained at Carrutherstown by Iain Jardine, easily dismissed five rivals in the mile handicap.

Some racegoers are likely to recall Davidson’s Gipsy Fiddler, trained by Jonjo O’Neill and ridden by Pat Eddery, triumphing in the 1990 Windsor Castle Stakes.
