Double keeps the Slattery bandwagon rolling along

An emerging force in Irish Flat racing was how the Racing Post's Alan Sweetman described trainer Andy Slattery in his Ireland's Eye column on Tuesday following his exploits in winning the two feature Flat races at Galway the previous week. The Killenaule handler kept up the run by winning with both of his runners on the first day of Sligo's two0day August fixture, run on extremely testing ground.

Declan McDonogh is certainly enjoying their partnership as he steered both horses to victory, and both would have been very pleased to see veteran An Saighdiur come back to close to his best in making all to win the 7f handicap.

"He was impressive there now. He's been coming back and on that ground he's a fair horse," said Slattery. "He's run well in the Ayr Silver Cup before and his owners might fancy a weekend away there in September again!"
