What had looked like being a landmark afternoon for Silvestre de Sousa, who will officially become champion jockey on Saturday, ended on a sour note as the stewards denied him what would have been his 200th winner of the year.

Already on the mark with Galloping Hogan in the mile nursery and Hajaam in division one of the 1m2f handicap, De Sousa dead-heated for first in division two as his mount Entangling rallied to join the Rob Hornby-ridden Villette on the line.

However, Entangling had caused interference with Villette in the final furlong by hanging right, and was demoted to second by the stewards, much to the annoyance of De Sousa.
