A wind operation does not always have the desired effect but it worked the oracle on Vocaliser, who hit the right tune in the 2m handicap chase to instigate a 67-1 double for trainer Robin Dickin.

The five-year-old, owned by The Songsters – a group of friends of the trainer’s son – had a tie-forward procedure and the sides of his larynx lasered in the summer in an attempt to aid his breathing.

Returning from a 220-day layoff, Vocaliser showed the benefit of the treatment, staying on strongly to win by a length and three-quarters under Charlie Poste.
