Nebo had hit the crossbar in a string of Group events this summer, so perhaps the booking of the high-flying Frankie Dettori made the difference as the Charlie Hills-trained colt stayed on best to land the Horris Hill.

That seemed to be the view of Hills, who praised the rider on the crest of a wave after an autumn haul that includes the Arc, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and Champion Stakes.

"I thought Frankie gave him a masterclass ride," said Hills, whose winner had finished second in the Superlative, Vintage and Criterium de Maisons-Laffitte, as well as third in the Mill Reef.
