Dettori rewards adoring crowd with victory on Rockspirit

Frankie Dettori could have been forgiven for giving the Bank Holiday traffic a miss and staying at home when two of his four mounts at the track were non-runners, but his trip up the A11 paid off when he landed the £22,000 feature on Rockspirit.

The seaside crowd were thankful he turned out and were keener than ever to have selfies and autographs of the Italian, who was making a rare appearance at the venue.

The success was an all-Italian affair with winning trainer Marco Botti saying: "Frankie rang me last night to ask if Rockspirit was still running as he had two non-runners. I said he was and I'm glad he came as he put the horse's head in front at the right time."
