Delta helps ease Elliott's disappointment by winning on chase bow

Delta Work, winner of the Pertemps Hurdle Final at Cheltenham in March, got off the mark over fences at the first attempt when coming out on top after a three-way scrap from the final fence in the 2m4f beginners' chase.

After the five-year-old had beaten Niven by three-quarters of a length under Davy Russell, trainer Gordon Elliott said: "They were going flat out down to the last fence and Delta Work almost threw the race away. But he battled very well to the line."

Elliott, who earlier had the disappointment of seeing Samcro get beaten on his return in the WKD Hurdle, added: "Delta Work will improve from the run, like most of ours will do this season, and we know he'll stay further."
