Delire D'Estruval gets up in thriller as Hawk flies high with comeback third

The beginners' chase looked an exciting contest beforehand and it delivered on the promise as Delire D'Estruval prevailed by a neck from Stowaway Magic in a thrilling finish, with returning Cheltenham Festival hero Hawk High a further three-quarters of a length back in third.

Back after a 551-day absence, 2014 Fred Winter winner Hawk High ran a cracker on his first start over fences and first start anywhere since finishing eighth in the Scottish Champion Hurdle in April last year.

"He's run a blinder and we're absolutely delighted with him," said Mick Meagher, racing manager to Hawk High's owner Trevor Hemmings.
