Supreme Steel continued the fine form of Dr Richard Newland with victory in the 2m7½f handicap hurdle and delighted a crowd of around 25 owners from Foxtrot Racing who were on hand to lift the Ken Boulton Memorial Trophy.

There was a tight finish to the race, run in memory of the former local rider who died aged 33 following a fall at the track in the 1960s, with Supreme Steel, ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies, holding off the late challenge of Lord Topper to win by a length and a quarter.

Jackie Kneller, a member of Foxtrot Racing who had travelled from near Ludlow, said: “I’ve always been involved with horses through hunting and eventing and I love jump racing – I have done as long as I can remember.
