Deja vu as 'good lead horse' The City's Phantom strikes again on return
Tuesday: Yarmouth
The City's Phantom clearly felt the benefit of doing work with stablemate Space Cowboy as the five-year-old recorded a comprehensive victory under Adam Kirby to take the 1m2f handicap for the second year in a row.
It is also the third successive year that the Richard Spencer-trained gelding has made a winning seasonal reappearance at the Norfolk track, and he was clearly displaying promising signs at home to lead the 102-rated Space Cowboy, who finished a highly credible third on All-Weather Finals Day at Newcastle on Good Friday.
Winning trainer Spencer told Sky Sports Racing: "He's a very good lead horse at home, he's been leading Space Cowboy in a few bits of work.
"He seems to like being caught fresh and he's doing it well again so hopefully we will try and space his races out a little bit this year."
Top start for Tasleet
Tasleet, a Group 2-winning colt for William Haggas in the Shadwell colours during his racing days, made the perfect start to his second career as a stallion as his first runner Carmela made a winning debut in the 5f fillies' maiden.
The David Loughnane-trained two-year-old showed a nice turn of foot and was the first leg of a double for jockey Richard Kingscote, who also steered the Cheveley Park-owned Assessment to an odds-on success in the mile novice. That result also gave Sir Michael Stoute his first winner of the season.
