The name Appleby has been on the honours board for two of the three years of the All-Weather Championships.

Two years ago Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby annexed the trainers' title but last year the Godolphin involvement was scaled back and it was Mick Appleby who prevailed.

It was thoroughly deserved as the Newark trainer had finished runner-up in the first two seasons for a title which is decided on winners, not prize-money, in contrast to the turf champions.
