De Sousa is angry and Watson delighted on the day a German horse makes history
In a nutshell, here's what happened at Goodwood. In the first, a horse who once had a five per cent chance of survival won a race whose start was delayed by tack adjustments to a 125-1 shot who then unseated his rider due to a tack problem.
In the second, the Norwegians unsuccessfully objected to the Germans. In the third, a rider who was initially declared to partner a stablemate was triumphant, causing some vexation to the jilted jockey, and in the fourth one Shadwell cast-off defeated another Shadwell cast-off.
Heaven knows where to start, but perhaps with Orbaan's 20-1 success in the great draw bias handicap that is the Coral Golden Mile. It was notable for producing a one-two for the consistently shrewd David O'Meara, who ran five of the 18 runners and would have run six had Shelir, the widest-berthed horse in the field, not been scratched (self-certificate).
