De Sousa double makes it worth skipping the day's bigger meetings

Silvestre de Sousa started the day with some decent chances among a maximum feasible of 12 booked rides, and while there was disappointment when 8-13 chance Kaser was only third in the 7f novice he made no mistake on the one that mattered most and went on to complete a double.

As a 65-rated sprinter The Lacemaker might have looked as though she was just another ride in the 6f fillies' handicap, but she is owned by his agent Shelley Dwyer and trained by her husband Chris, so his riding was under the utmost scrutiny.

Stall 1 was a worry, but de Sousa brought her straight down the middle of the track for a half-length defeat of Roys Dream.
