Day of ups and downs for Caudwell topped by Hill's success

Most people can relate to the frustration of sitting in traffic but doing so when your horse is winning on the track is now an unfortunate memory for owner Doreen Caudwell, who missed Oliver’s Hill land the feature 2m4f Leicestershire Silver Fox Handicap Chase.

It was a good day for the Hills, with trainer Lawney Hill and husband Alan on course to celebrate the winner, ridden by Nick Scholfield, but their thoughts were with Caudwell, who had little choice but to head home after accepting she would not make it in time.

Caudwell, who owned 1972 Whitbread Gold Cup winner Grey Sombrero, was nevertheless informed of the success by her trainer on the phone.
