David Christie: Ballinrobe double

Monday: Ballinrobe

Fermanagh trainer David Christie ended a three-month wait for a winner in style by saddling a 50-1 double.

Paidi’s Passion, sent off 9-1, came with a late challenge under Sam Ewing to land the 2m6f mares' maiden hurdle, while 4-1 shot Meindee produced a good performance to land the first division of the 2m6f handicap hurdle by two lengths, with Jordan Gainford in the plate.

Christie said: “They’re really two point-to-point mares who just stay all day. I targeted these two contests after their previous runs. When I saw racing was going to be on the outer loop I was delighted, as that makes it even more testing.

“Even though both of them looked as if they were going to be headed, I knew they’d stay on to the line, and that’s what they both did. I’m delighted the plan worked out as it doesn’t always happen that way.”

Blues cruise

Daryl Jacob made his trip to County Mayo worthwhile when making his sole ride a winning one on board the Willie Mullins-trained 7-2 shot Fan De Blues in the 2m1f BoyleSports Chase.

The seven-year-old travelled strongly throughout, and although jumping a little left at the final two fences he had plenty in hand over 4-9 favourite Cape Gentleman, running out a comfortable seven-length winner.

Jacob said: “My lad had a lot of experience and may actually want a little further. But he did very well and I thought it was good placing by Willie.

"It was a nice opportunity for him. He’s a brilliant jumper. He was a little rushed into one or two, including the last, but he’ll deliver when you need a good one.”
