Dan Skelton is looking at Cheltenham's curtain-raising October meeting for Faivoir after the Grade 2-winning hurdler made a successful start over fences with victory in the 2m novice chase.

The two and a half length triumph over Annual Invictus was a fifth win from Faivoir's last six starts, and Skelton said: "I thought they went very strong early on, so he would have learned a lot from that as a first-time chaser. All in all I was very happy.

"I'll look to go to Cheltenham for the October meeting next, that's not absolutely 110 per cent confirmed, but I'll look at that.

"If he went there and acquitted himself well he could end up back there for the Arkle trial in November, but we won't burden him with that too soon."

Moon a marvel

Caroline Bailey was delighted to see Mariners Moon return from "the most horrendous fall you've ever seen" last time to clock up just his third victory in 54 starts in the 2m6½f handicap hurdle.

The ten-year-old crashed out at Market Rasen in August, but showed no ill effects as he cruised to victory under Sean Bowen.

Bailey said: "He had the most horrendous fall you've ever seen at Market Rasen, but thanks to a bit of TLC and the hard work of the team at home we got him back and it's really nice for the owners to get another win out of him because he doesn't do it often."
