Cunning clipping plan pays off for Gardner as Trans Express lands hat-trick

A fair Christmas crowd would have done worse than follow the old horses for courses adage as Trans Express won the 2m2½f handicap hurdle for the third year running.

The eight-year-old won off 106 in 2016 and from 4lb higher last year, so trainer Sue Gardner was understandably elated he defied a rating of 117.

Gardner, whose daughter Lucy was on board as she has been for the previous two victories, said: "He is what he is, but that was absolutely brilliant.
