If Rachael Blackmore is ultimately denied by a solitary win in her quest to be champion jockey, Cuneo will have to shoulder some of the blame, but he went some way to making amends for his previous misdemeanour by knuckling down to take the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle qualifier.

Disqualified at Punchestown last month after leaning all over Relegate from the final flight, Cuneo was making his handicap debut off a rating of 126.

At Punchestown the Henry de Bromhead-trained six-year-old had edged left at the final flight and he went a little right this time, but Blackmore was wise to him. He responded gamely to her urgings to see off Walk To Freedom by half a length.
