The Warrior had gone 27 races without a win before setting the record straight in style when sweeping down the outside of the field under Jim Crowley to take the spoils in the mile handicap.

Trained by the jockey's sister-in-law Amanda Perrett, the winner, whose last victory came under Crowley at Kempton 18 months ago, has given the distinct impression he is not the easiest horse to win with on a number of occasions.

Crowley's brother-in-law Mark Perrett admitted The Warrior has a mind of his own and said: “He can be a bit frustrating in his races when he does not put his best foot forward, but he's shown there he can certainly get the job done if he wants to.
