Crosspark sees off Mysteree challenge to triumph in marathon Eider Chase
Crosspark dug deep to repel the persistent challenge of Mysteree by a neck in an exciting finish of the Eider Chase for Jamie Moore and Caroline Bailey.
Mysteree, winner in 2017, put up a stern challenge, but just failed in his bid to win the marathon chase for a second time. Morney Wing was six lengths back in third and the Shark Hanlon-trained Kilkishen finished fourth.
Moore said: “He’s a really good traveller and dug really deep for me. Mr & Mrs Bailey have done a great job and I was lucky to be a very small part of the success.
“He only hit one fence which was more my fault as I asked him for a big one. He’s a survivor and this has made the long journey worthwhile.”
In an eventful race the well-fancied Daklondike was never in contention after planting himself at the start and connections of Baywing were dealt a hammer blow, with last year's hero sadly suffering a fatal injury after falling at the first fence.
