Crehan back in winning groove as he lands first success since returning from ban
Mark Crehan celebrated his first winner since returning from his 28-day ban last month in terrific style as Mr Professor maintained his unbeaten record after switching to the care of Alice Haynes with success in the mile nursery.
3lb claimer Crehan, who dramatically mistook the half-furlong pole for the winning post when he lost on Aerion Power at Doncaster in July, returned to action on August 27 and ended a 57-day losing streak with success on the son of Profitable, who made a winning debut for Haynes at Kempton a week ago.
The Newmarket-based trainer said: "He's done that in good style, he's still learning to race but got it right at the business end. He keeps progressing and is an exciting horse, with a winter on his back he'll turn into a really nice three-year-old."
Mr Professor's success was a 19th of the season for Crehan and Haynes praised the jockey's character following an eventful summer.
"He's a hard worker and had his break, but he's getting back to his best and was good to have him on board," she added. "It's great for owners Amo Racing too, we can't continue this fine form forever but we'll keep on kicking."
Wintle continues flying form
Wiff Waff ended a 13-race losing streak to continue Adrian Wintle's recent run of success with victory in the 5f handicap, giving the trainer a third winner from his last seven runners.
