James Bowen started last season without a single winner under Rules. Fast forward 12 months and he needs just 14 more to lose his remaining 3lb claim. And for what it is worth, he is counting.

The reigning champion conditional knew exactly how many winners were left before he joins the professional ranks after Potterman gave him a 60th career success in the 2m4½f maiden hurdle, and he did not have to wait long for the 61st as Fingerontheswitch proved a winning spare ride in the 3m1f handicap hurdle.

“The only target for the season is losing my claim,” said Bowen. “This time last year there was no way I’d have believed what happened last season. I really enjoyed it and got a lot of good opportunities for a lot of good people. I’m definitely staying with Nicky Henderson and hopefully we can build up our relationship even more.”
