Racing returned to the Rowley Mile for the start of what is known as the 'gold season' and Pat Cosgrave went to the top of the medal table with a double, including a frontrunning masterclass on Stars Over The Sea in the Cesarewitch Trial.

The 2m2f contest is a practice for the £500,000 handicap on October 13, but it looked more like the even-longer Newmarket Town Plate turning for home with Stars Over The Sea at least 25 lengths clear of the pack.

One of three runners for Ian Williams, the seven-year-old was cut to 20-1 (from 33) by Paddy Power for the main event after his ten-length romp.
