Cool, calm, collected Colin Keane lands quickfire Dundalk double
Dundalk: Wednesday
Champion jockey Colin Keane carded a quickfire double with both Coolcalmncollected and King Of Scotia proving successful.
The 16-5 shot Coolcalmncollected followed up his course-and-distance success from two weeks ago to land the 6f nursery for in-form trainer Ciaran Murphy.
Murphy believes the winner will continue to improve over the coming months, and told Racing TV: "He's progressed really, really nicely. Colin was impressed with him and said to me, 'You need to mind this lad, he could be a nice horse'."
Keane's double was completed when the Michael O'Callaghan-trained King Of Scotia justified 4-7 favouritism in the 7f maiden. It was a first run for the two-year-old since being gelded, and his trainer is hoping that this first win can be a catalyst for further success.
"Colin was delighted with him today," said O'Callaghan. "He has a lot of natural pace and just wants to please you. I think he could mix it up next year and be a stakes horse."
Gamble landed
The Paul Flynn-trained Cheers Again was backed in from 25-1 overnight to 7-2 favourite for the second division of the mile handicap and rewarded market confidence with a comfortable success, seeing off Darkdeserthighway by two and three-quarter lengths.
In the first division, Higher Kingdom landed a first win since September 2020, and also a first success since moving to John McConnell's, when scoring by six lengths.
"He's a horse John has always liked," said winning rider Siobhan Rutledge. "Credit to him, he thought he'd go close today. Everything worked out really well."
