The holiday is almost over for visiting New Zealander James McDonald, but what a time he has had.

The 24-year-old has grabbed every opportunity handed him since William Buick was hit with a 30-day ban, but Dutch Connection’s length-and-three-quarter defeat of Home Of The Brave in the £300,000 Qatar Lennox Stakes – in which the four-year-old was second last year – was extra special as this one was for his good friend Charlie Hills.

Punters will be sorry to see him go, as he has not put a foot wrong, but he has pressing commitments at home.
