Conflated got Michael O'Leary racing for the first time in ages, he must be good

It felt a bit like turning up to a Coldplay concert and finding out Chris Martin wouldn't be singing when you got there.

As 16,301 racegoers streamed through the gates at Leopardstown for day three of the Christmas festival they were soon to find out the horse most came to see wouldn't be running. No Cheltenham Gold Cup winner in the Savills Chase. No way of knowing if the Betfair Chase was a one-off or whether there was something more sinister to it. A bang to a joint put paid to that.

What was left in the feature race wasn't quite a sky full of stars but it is about time we gave the winner some credit, don't you think? Our very own Tom Segal described Conflated as the "most underrated staying chaser in training" in his Pricewise column on Wednesday while making his case for him in the Savills Chase and, not for the first time, he was spot on.
