Conditional Brogan makes immediate impact on first ride for in-form Haslam
Ben Haslam and Kevin Brogan are enjoying impressive individual campaigns and they teamed up for the first time to great effect with Rock On Fruity in the 2m6½f handicap hurdle.
Early morning frost had threatened to derail proceedings at the Borders track, which survived two inspections before being given the all-clear.
Once racing was under way, the JP McManus-owned 11-year-old provided dual-purpose trainer Haslam with an 11th victory of the season, two short of matching his previous best tally for a jumps campaign.
"The summer jumps is very important to us and we missed an enormous part of that, so to have 11 winners is fantastic," said Haslam, who is operating at a £92.75 profit to a £1 stake.
"Rock On Fruity is a great horse to be able to train and is still very enthusiastic."
No other conditional jockey with at least ten wins can match 7lb claimer Brogan's 22 per cent strike-rate and Haslam believes the young Irishman has a bright future.
He said: "I was very pleased with how simple and uncomplicated a ride he gave him. He certainly looks to have a lot of potential and I'm sure that claim won't last very long."
Snow Angel pips Pot
However, another 11-year-old horse and 7lb claimer combination denied Haslam and Brogan from doubling up when the Sandy Forster-trained Charlie Snow Angel pipped Scoop The Pot by a neck under Joanna Walton in the 3m2f handicap chase.
