Nothing that Santa brings can possibly delight Stuart Coltherd as much as Captain Redbeard's success in the Betfred Tommy Whittle Handicap Chase.

The Selkirk trainer has had several near-misses this season and what better way to get off the mark for 2017-18 than by landing a £25,000 chase two days before Christmas?

After his 14-1 shot had scored by six lengths under the trainer's son Sam, Coltherd reflected: "That's a good way to start the season off. The horses have been running well and they've been knocking on the door but that's our first winner.
