Joseph O’Brien has never been afraid of taking risks and, 24 hours after Iridessa provided the trainer with a Group 1 victory in the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh, he was rewarded for rolling the dice with Speak In Colours before Buckhurst capped a memorable weekend at HQ for the maestro.

Running Speak In Colours in the Dash was a risk, with the sprinter backing up a week after running a cracker in defeat at Royal Ascot, but one O’Brien was willing to make with his four-year-old appearing to hold obvious claims on paper.

“It was a big enough ask to come back. This time last week he still hadn't run at Ascot and he ran a huge race there,” O'Brien said afterwards.
