Accurate jumping has proved an Achilles’ heel for Coeur Blimey over hurdles and trainer Sue Gardner’s decision to try the well-regarded seven-year-old on the Flat might well pay more dividends following his success in the 1m2f novice contest.

Despite not being smartly away from the stalls, Jamie Spencer soon had his mount up with the pace before staying on with great gusto in the straight to comfortably see off the attentions of odds-on favourite King Lud by four and a half-lengths.

Devon-based Gardner reckoned that Coeur Blimey would appreciate further than the ten furlongs he faced on this occasion and revealed the team had turned down some big-money offers for the horse after he landed a Listed bumper at Ascot just over a couple of years ago.
