Cloud proves to have silver lining for delighted Jack Andrews after first treble
Friday: Doncaster
A solitary cloud caused a lengthy delay before the final race, but that did not stop conditional jockey Jack Andrews from celebrating a first professional treble on Indy Five.
Three fences in the home straight were scheduled to be omitted because of the low sun in the 3m handicap chase.
However, with the sun being obstructed by a cloud, the late decision was made to jump all 18 fences, to the benefit of the David Dennis-trained Indy Five, who put on a jumping clinic to run out an easy five-length winner.
“Definitely a day to remember,” Andrews told Sky Sports Racing. “I was delighted when they [fences] got put back in; he got in a great rhythm out in front going from fence to fence. He jumped so well, he was taking lengths out of them. I knew turning in I had them cooked.”
Andrews had earlier landed a quickfire double for trainer Ben Case. The Golden Rebel kicked off proceedings by taking the feature 2m4½f limited handicap chase followed by Cobblers Dream winning the 2m3½f handicap hurdle.
He added: “I’ve not been a conditional long and I couldn’t be happier with the way things are going. I'm very grateful for the people putting me up.”
Birthday winner for Henderson
Wiseguy provided Nicky Henderson with a winner on his 71st birthday when landing the 3m maiden hurdle under James Bowen.
The form of Wiseguy was given a timely boost an hour earlier when Datsalrightgino landed the opening race at Cheltenham. He had finished third behind that rival at Fontwell last month.
