Joseph O'Brien has always been keen to give Shane Crosse plenty of opportunities and you can understand why after watching the 18-year-old win the feature Group 3 Rybo Ballycorus Stakes on Speak In Colours. It was a glorious piece of jockeyship.

Better known as a sprinter, Speak In Colours was not a certain stayer over seven furlongs but Crosse had him settled towards the back of the ten-runner field and picked off the pack one by one up the home straight.

The final manoeuvre of the former champion apprentice was to sneak up the inside of Gustavus Weston and the 11-8 favourite stayed on strongly to beat the staying-on Surrounding by two and a quarter lengths.
