All eyes were on Expert Eye in the Greenham but the sustained drift during the morning told a telling story and after running quite keenly through the early stages he did not have the finishing kick to open his season with victory.

While this second was no doubt an improvement on his disappointing effort in the Dewhurst – and he is entitled to improve for his first run of the season – the lustre Expert Eye gained through victory in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood has faded quickly and he will need to step up considerably from this effort to feature at the business end of the 2,000 Guineas, should he contest it.
