Clark 'gutted' after missing out on Super Sprint win
Ryan Clark said he was gutted to miss out on partnering Mrs Danvers to Super Sprint victory, having been replaced by Luke Morris due to the filly's featherweight burden at the bottom of the handicap.
Clark had ridden Mrs Danvers to both of her previous wins and was keen to retain the partnership, but with his lowest riding weight in the past 12 months 8st 6lb and the filly carrying just 8st at Newbury, it was decided by trainer Jonathan Portman that alternative riding arrangements were needed.
"I was going to do the weight but Mr Portman decided I shouldn't as for me it's quite a light weight," Clark said yesterday. "I said to him I thought she'd win it off that low weight, I wanted to do it and in the past I've done that weight for Royal Ascot and stuff like that, but he was adamant for my own health he didn't want to me to."
