One down, two to go. Christian Williams' northern odyssey got off to the perfect start as Cap Du Nord broke his duck over fences.

The same horse could attempt to follow up at Catterick on Friday and then Potters Corner will try to give their South Wales trainer his biggest win in Saturday's £80,000 Vertem Eider Chase at Newcastle.

Cap Du Nord's jumping was less than fluent as he took the novice handicap chase on his sixth run over fences.
