Royal Ascot aim for impressive Godolphin debut winner New Science

New Science could prove in his element at Royal Ascot next month after posting a stylish debut victory in the 7f novice stakes.

The son of Lope de Vega was a first winning juvenile colt of the season for Charlie Appleby after denying Rab Havlin a successful return to the saddle on Reach For The Moon.

Not as green as some in the preliminaries, the 13-8 favourite certainly knew his job by making every yard under William Buick, eventually scoring by a length and a half.

The winner was given a quote of 6-1 by Paddy Power for the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot and Buick thinks the meeting could be on the colt's radar.

The jockey said: "New Science relaxed nicely in front and that was a perfect introduction. He could go to Royal Ascot as he feels as if he would be suited by the track."

Cumani back among the winners

Luca Cumani enjoyed notable success as a trainer at the Norfolk track over the years and is now a successful breeder here as Kemari ran away with division one of the 1m3½f maiden.

Godolphin paid 400,000gns for the three-year-old son of Dubawi as a yearling in 2019 and he looked a horse on the up when powering home by six lengths.

Kemari was completing a quick-fire double for Appleby and Buick and could well be a stakes performer.

Speaking from his Fittocks Stud establishment near Newmarket, Cumani said: "That was a very timely win as Kemari's dam Koora is due to be covered by Wootton Bassett tomorrow. It's very exciting as Kemari is her first foal – she has a very nice colt by Galileo to go to the sales this year and also a nice filly foal by Kingman."

No mistaking Title's victory

Members of owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing thought Title had won on his previous start in a tight finish at Newbury, but there was no mistake this time around.

The son of Camelot came from off the pace to sink market rival Sea Karats under David Egan despite carrying his head high in division two of the 1m3½f maiden.

The win extended the golden run of trainer Roger Varian, and syndicate member Isidore Carivalis said: "We really thought he had won at Newbury but that was very impressive."

Graystone provides first Flat winner

Jumps owner James Summers only has one Flat horse in training and tasted his first success on the level when Graystone struck in the 7f handicap.

The three-year-old was not missed in the market either at 11-1 from 16-1 in the morning before striking late under Danny Muscutt.

Justin Wadham, husband of winning trainer Lucy, said: "This has been the plan ever since last year and it's great that the owner can be here."

Toothache stops Murphy march

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy was forced to give up his final three rides of the meeting after complaining of toothache. He said: "I'm in a lot of pain but I should be okay to ride at Haydock tomorrow."
