Charlie Hills living American dream with Pogo as Hollie Doyle bags four-timer
Charlie Hills will explore big-race options in North America for Pogo, after the flourishing five-year-old made a winning comeback in the Elusive Bloodstock-sponsored King Richard III Stakes.
Pogo progressed from placing in handicaps to Group 1 races last year and continued his climb up the ladder with a hard-fought success in the Listed feature, where he held off a rejuvenated Mums Tipple by a length and a quarter.
He will likely head to the Group 1 Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes on May 17 next and he was cut to 25-1 (from 40) by Paddy Power for the Newbury showpiece.
Bigger ambitions this summer include the Mister D Stakes, formerly known as the Arlington Million, or the Woodbine Mile in Canada in September.
Hills said: "That was great, I'm delighted. He's such a star of a horse, he's got so much energy and character.
"He had a really good year last season and we hope there's more improvement to come. There's some nice races we're entered in like the Lockinge, although we've got a bit to find, but that's the obvious place to go.
"We could look at the Queen Anne later in the season but we might look abroad as there's plenty of nice races in America. The Arlington Million or the Woodbine Mile are nice options."
Doyle delight
Hollie Doyle recorded a 135.5-1 four-timer on the card, kicked off by Bellarena Lady running out a smart winner of the 5f novice stakes.
Her red-hot afternoon continued as she racked up further victories on Dancinginthewoods, Jeanette May and Jaramillo. Doyle came close to a third career five-timer when runner-up on Power Station in the last, two and a quarter lengths behind the winner Kingmania.
