Case proven: barrister's buy Ghosts in for first win over hurdles

Leicester claimers have some previous for producing hurdle winners, most notably 1997 Champion Hurdle winner Make A Stand, who was claimed by none other than Martin Pipe.

While the 15-time champion trainer picked that plum out of a 1m4f claimer, London barrister James Finch raised a few eyebrows when claiming the Archie Watson-trained Ghost Serge out of a seven-furlong event in May.

That £12,000 buy now looks shrewd after Ghost Serge and Paddy Brennan comprehensively beat the odds-on favourite Brandy James in the juvenile maiden hurdle.
