Twelve months ago temperatures at Prestbury Park soared resulting in the 3m2f mares’ handicap chase being cancelled but the mercury remained steady on this occasion with Goodnight Charlie putting up a red-hot performance in landing the prize.

Trainer Caroline Fryer, celebrating her first winner at the track, admitted the nine-year-old has two ways of running.

Fryer said: "When she’s good, she’s good but when she’s bad, she’s terrible. It would be an understatement to say she’s a bit in and out but she was on her best behaviour today.
