Camerone comes good as Dobbs times it to perfection

Nothing went the way of Camerone at Ascot last month but she gained some compensation when staying on well to deny the well-backed favourite Tarte Tropezienne in the feature 1m3½f fillies’ handicap.

Ralph Beckett’s charge was forced to race wide, resulting in her being far too keen on her last outing but Pat Dobbs was able to switch her off behind runners on this occasion and the ploy worked to perfection.

Dobbs, who is riding on a regular basis for Beckett this term, delayed his telling challenge until the furlong marker where he asked the filly for a final effort and she lengthened well to see off the runner-up.
