Bye Bye Hong Kong will not be saying hello to Churchill Downs after winning the inaugural running of the Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions Stakes – the last chance saloon for European qualifiers for the Kentucky Derby

The first running of the mile contest was billed "The Road To The Kentucky Derby" and attracted Aidan O'Brien's first ever runners to the track including the 15-8 favourite U S S Michigan.

He and outsider Shir Khan were the only two of the nine-strong field who had an automatic place in the Kentucky Derby if they had won but U S S Michigan could muster only fourth while Shir Khan finished tailed off in eighth.
