Wednesday: Lingfield

Bakersboy registered his first win at the 15th attempt when bossing the featured 1m2f novice stakes just 17 and a half hours after finishing second in a handicap at Wolverhampton.

Trainer Phil McEntee hardly had time to turn his recent acquisition into his famous 'Glastonbury' paddock at his Newmarket yard before despatching him south on Wednesday morning.

The gelding was having just his third outing for new connections, but there was no fluke in his beating of runner-up Scampi and the odds-on favourite Alazwar.

The victory was also a welcome winner for Josephine Gordon, who was hitting the board for the first time since January.

McEntee told Sky Sports Racing: "We came here as we thought the best horse may not win it which can happen at Lingfield. We had an easy lead in front and it was happy days."

Doyle back from Dubai

Striking-looking grey Alrehb teed himself up for an early season campaign on turf when getting up close home to land the 7f handicap.

James Doyle was riding in Group 1s in Dubai last weekend, and he got a decent tune out of the 5-6 favourite despite being drawn widest in stall nine.

Winning trainer Kevin Philippart de Foy is looking forward to getting his strapping five-year-old on a more conventional track.

He said: "We came here because Alrehb needed a run and we knew he'd finish well as he's won over a mile. The plan on the turf would be to run him over seven furlongs on a straight track."

Worthy cause

There was a dead-heat in the closing mile handicap with Giewont and Le Forban sharing the prize, but a third winner were charities in support of Ukrainian refugees.

Connections of the Darryll Holland-trained Giewont were donating most of the prize-money won, nearly £2,000, in support of the Ukrainian crisis as well as sporting 'Harraton Court Stables in support of Ukraine' badges on course.
