Burrows Edge lands dramatic Lanzarote Hurdle for Nicky Henderson
Nicky Henderson gained some compensation for the defeat of Top Notch in the feature Grade 2 chase at Kempton when Burrows Edge took advantage of a late melee in the chief supporting contest, the Listed Unibet Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle.
The 5-1 chance looked booked for third place until longtime leader Debestyman and favourite Notre Pari departed in separate incidents at the last flight when looking to have the race between them.
Burrows Edge, who was last seen falling on his chasing debut at Ludlow in December, will now be staying over hurdles with races like the Coral Cup at Cheltenham on the radar.
The Michael Buckley-owned winner was given a 25-1 quote by Paddy Power for the 2m5f contest in March.
Watch Burrows Edge win a dramatic Lanzarote Hurdle
Henderson, who was winning the Lanzarote Hurdle for the third time in seven years, said: "I don't think he would have won and maybe finished fourth but for the fallers.
"We'll see what the handicapper does but he was a bit tentative early on as he was still remembering Ludlow I would imagine.
"Hopefully he could make a race at Cheltenham and we'll stick to this now rather than going for a novice chase at Bangor or somewhere."
