Burke excited as big-money buy Kadar shines on debut for Phoenix Thoroughbreds
Karl Burke described Kadar as potentially one of the best colts he has trained after Phoenix Thoroughbred's €700,000 breeze-up purchase earned quotes for next season's Classics with an impressive debut victory.
The son of Scat Daddy looked short of room a furlong out as 4-7 favourite Waldstern, who was backed in running for more than £2,000 at the minimum 1.01, got first run but he picked up strongly to power home by a length and a quarter under Clifford Lee in the mile novice contest.
"I was impressed by that, I've been impressed with him at home – he's a beautiful colt with a big future," said Burke. "He's done that relatively easy, he got caught in a pocket but he got out of it. He's a big galloping horse, who stays the mile and I'd have no hesitation going to the Guineas as I think he'd be competitive. He's not slow – he has a high cruising speed – but a mile and a quarter-plus will be his trip next year."
