Homework pays off as Buckley makes all for Hawke on Georgina Joy

There were four riders that could not claim in the opening 3m1½f conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle but you would not have known Tom Buckley was not one of them such was his polished display of front-running on Georgina Joy.

Having his first ride at the track, the 10lb claimer was partnering just his second winner when holding off Welluptoscratch on the run-in.

Buckley had done his homework to the extent of shunning the inside rail on the well-fancied 9-2 chance, who is trained by his boss Nigel Hawke.
