Browne sweats to ride Swamp and collects Connacht Handicap
Most of us can claim to have put on 6lb in a day but have any of us ever lost 6lb in a day? Thought not. But Barry Browne somehow managed the mammoth feat to take the ride on Swamp Fox in last night's Connacht Hotel Handicap and boy was it worthwhile.
“I just sweated in a hot bath,” replied Browne when asked how he managed to lose so much weight in such a short period of time. The 25-year-old from Donadea only found out he would be riding Swamp Fox at 10.30am on Sunday morning but he took full advantage of his late call-up.
“It is just unbelievable,” Browne added. “I can't thank Garry Cribbin [jockey's agent] enough. I had never even spoke to Joe Murphy before yesterday but I suppose it is hard to get amateurs who can do that sort of weight.
