Brian Hughes rode a four-timer at Newcastle to bring up 100 winners for the season and leapfrog Richard Johnson at the top of the jockeys' standings.

The irresistible form of the north's top jockey saw him cut to 2-5 (from 1-2) by Paddy Power to clinch his first title in April after his second four-timer in a week.

Reigning champion Richard Johnson is two short of his rival on 98 winners after drawing a blank at Ascot.
