It was tough going on the rain-sodden ground but it proved just the ticket for the gallant Smooth Stepper, who jumped and galloped his way to a game success win in the featured £50,000 Liz Adam Memorial Handicap Chase over 3m2f.

It was another big staying chase win for trainer Sue Smith and a timely one as well with the Randox Health Grand National next weekend, where Smith is likely to be represented.

He was partnered by Danny Cook, who will be riding I Just Know at Aintree and, though he was being strongly pressed by the Eider winner Baywing going to the second last, his rival blundered away his chance.
