'Bit of a character' Linus Larrabee completes 247-1 treble for Eddie Lynam
Wednesday: Dundalk
Trainer Eddie Lynam registered a 247-1 treble, with each of his winners ridden by a different jockey.
Gobi Star, ridden by Chris Hayes, was the first of Lynam's winners when making it two victories from his last three starts in the opening 6f claimer.
The four-year-old, who scored by half a length, was subsequently claimed for €13,000 to be trained by Pat Martin.
Lynam then struck with Navarra Pace, who came in for strong support despite finishing well beaten on his only other start at the Curragh in September. Having been available at 33-1 in the morning, the unexposed three-year-old returned at 13-2 and he came home strongest in the 7f maiden under Joey Sheridan.
The treble was completed by Linus Larrabee, who under a cool ride from 7lb claimer Sorcha Woods recorded his third course-and-distance win in the first division of the 7f handicap.
Speaking to Racing TV, Lynam said: "Linus Larrabee is a bit of a character but Sorcha gave him a good, confident ride. She comes in three mornings a week to ride out so I'm delighted for her.
"You've got to kid this horse a bit but he has a little bit about him – he's not devoid of ability."
McConnell's Cheltenham warm-up
It was also a successful afternoon for trainer John McConnell, who teamed up with jockey Conor Hoban for a handicap double with Cousin Shay and St Cianans Fire.
The dual-purpose trainer heads to Cheltenham this weekend with some live chances following a hat-trick at the track's opening meeting of the season last month.
