Birkett rides out claim with win for biggest supporter

Shelley Birkett achieved her ambition to ride out her claim, but her biggest supporter missed it despite providing her with the 95th success achieved on Wilson in the 7f handicap.

Birkett's mother, Julia Feilden, has trained 54 of her daughter's wins, including the first on Bavarica at Folkestone as an amateur on her only ride at the defunct Kent track.

Birkett said: "I've even ridden a winner out of Bavarica in Gas Monkey. To ride out my claim has been the main aim of my career and it's nice to do it on one of Mum's.
